{"id":131,"date":"2011-04-25T21:09:00","date_gmt":"2011-04-26T02:09:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/journeythroughtheobsidiandream.wordpress.com\/2011\/04\/25\/astrological-characterization"},"modified":"2011-04-25T21:09:00","modified_gmt":"2011-04-26T02:09:00","slug":"astrological-characterization","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/journeythroughtheobsidiandream.com\/index.php\/2011\/04\/25\/astrological-characterization\/","title":{"rendered":"Astrological Characterization"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For all that I have been a self-identified occultist since the age of sixteen, I am woefully ignorant of matters astrological.\u00a0 Don\u2019t get me wrong \u2013 I spent my time studying sun-signs, just like everyone else.\u00a0 But I never graduated into complete charts.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t even really know that they existed until well after I\u2019d grown bored with the subject.\u00a0 I fell for the pseudo-scientific debunking games of folks like the Amazing Randy.\u00a0 (Hey, don\u2019t blame me: I went to public schools.\u00a0 Critical thinking was something I learned later, out in the real world.)\u00a0 Since those early days, I have since learned that astrology is a massive, complex area of study with multitudinous, conflicting schools of thought.\u00a0 But it is only within the last year that I have begun to study it in earnest.<\/p>\n<p>My initial forays have been sporadic.\u00a0 I still have a half-dozen charts I\u2019ve promised people I would complete for them as part of my studies.\u00a0 (And I really will generate them soon.\u00a0 Before I leave for Real College, even.)\u00a0 Realistically, I\u2019m only beginning to learn the vocabulary.\u00a0 The underlying theses still elude me.<\/p>\n<p>As you delightful readers may or may not know, I am a novelist.\u00a0 A great number of my stories revolve around occult themes.\u00a0 Having recently started a new project, I decided that an excellent way to work on character development for the protagonist, and as an excuse to work on something other than my homework, I would create a birth chart for her.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s been fascinating work so far.<\/p>\n<p>My chief resources on this project \u2013 astrology in general, not just Dorothea Faigin \u2013 are <a href=\"http:\/\/www.astrolog.org\/astrolog.htm\">Astrolog<\/a> and <em>Astrology: A Cosmic Science<\/em> by Isabel M.
