{"id":138,"date":"2011-04-04T07:50:00","date_gmt":"2011-04-04T12:50:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/journeythroughtheobsidiandream.wordpress.com\/2011\/04\/04\/kneeling-satyr"},"modified":"2011-04-04T07:50:00","modified_gmt":"2011-04-04T12:50:00","slug":"kneeling-satyr","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/journeythroughtheobsidiandream.com\/index.php\/2011\/04\/04\/kneeling-satyr\/","title":{"rendered":"\u201cKneeling Satyr\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/lh6.ggpht.com\/_TrsUO20TelM\/TZnMnT4rCUI\/AAAAAAAAACk\/KlGZDbgMTHg\/s1600-h\/IMG_0288%5B3%5D.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"IMG_0288\" border=\"0\" alt=\"IMG_0288\" src=\"http:\/\/lh6.ggpht.com\/_TrsUO20TelM\/TZnMn3ONb7I\/AAAAAAAAACo\/wPAfnU3kVUk\/IMG_0288_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800\" width=\"184\" height=\"244\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"line-height:normal;margin:0;\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><font color=\"#ffffff\" face=\"Times New Roman\">Lo, behold the satyr wild \u2013 fierce and bold and free &#8211;<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height:normal;margin:0;\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><font color=\"#ffffff\" face=\"Times New Roman\">from Dionysos\u2019 <span>\u00a0<\/span>revel he but stops to rest<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height:normal;margin:0;\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><font color=\"#ffffff\" face=\"Times New Roman\">and fall upon upon a bended knee,<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height:normal;margin:0;\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><font color=\"#ffffff\" face=\"Times New Roman\">\u2018neath twisting branches verdigris,<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height:normal;margin:0;\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><font color=\"#ffffff\" face=\"Times New Roman\">and offer thanks for<span>\u00a0 <\/span>life by Bacchus blessed.<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height:normal;margin:0;\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><font color=\"#ffffff\" face=\"Times New Roman\">\u00a0<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height:normal;margin:0;\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><font color=\"#ffffff\" face=\"Times New Roman\">Crowned he is by curling locks and grapen vine,<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height:normal;margin:0;\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><font color=\"#ffffff\" face=\"Times New Roman\">a face cursed by beauty, yet lit by wicked grin:<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height:normal;margin:0;\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><font color=\"#ffffff\" face=\"Times New Roman\">for his sculpted chest is brazen, bare, and fine,<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height:normal;margin:0;\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><font color=\"#ffffff\" face=\"Times New Roman\">and \u2018twixt lean hips kitled in goat-skin,<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height:normal;margin:0;\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><font color=\"#ffffff\" face=\"Times New Roman\">hangs Priapos\u2019 boon, not quite hidden.<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height:normal;margin:0;\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><font color=\"#ffffff\" face=\"Times New Roman\">\u00a0<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height:normal;margin:0;\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><font color=\"#ffffff\" face=\"Times New Roman\">One clawed hand he rests on muscled thigh, <\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height:normal;margin:0;\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><font color=\"#ffffff\" face=\"Times New Roman\">his breath restored, and his ardor keen.<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height:normal;margin:0;\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><font color=\"#ffffff\" face=\"Times New Roman\">The other paw he lifts toward gods and sky &#8211;<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height:normal;margin:0;\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><font color=\"#ffffff\" face=\"Times New Roman\">his eyes fierce-bright with silver sheen &#8211;<\/font><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height:normal;margin:0;\" class=\"MsoNormal\"><font color=\"#ffffff\" face=\"Times New Roman\">and that grin, first wicked, leers now obscene.<\/font><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>  <a name='more'><\/a>  <\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#ffffff\" face=\"Times New Roman\">A poem from my Creative Writing class.\u00a0 Prior to this class, I had not written poetry since high school, and it is doubtful that I will ever do so again unless similarly forced.\u00a0 Still, I\u2019m not displeased with this piece: an ode to a statue, perhaps once a lamp, almost certainly an idol.\u00a0 The photograph is mine, taken in the Nelson-Atkins museum of Kansas City, MO.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font color=\"#ffffff\" face=\"Times New Roman\">Those who know me in the real world, of course, have already seen this poem posted elsewhere, but not the picture.<\/font><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lo, behold the satyr wild \u2013 fierce and bold and free &#8211;
