Megan has been coming out to the cabin every summer since Eric and Liz brought her and James with them\u00a0on their family vacation after their sophomore year of high school.\u00a0 Things have changed since then \u2013 Eric\u2019s gotten married; James is now exclusively gay \u2013 but the tradition remains: the axis of peace and hope and, for lack of a better word, family around which her otherwise banal and depressing year revolves.\u00a0 Angel comes with them, now, and every year James brings a different boy.\u00a0 This year is no different,\u00a0 at first.<\/p>\n

An unseasonable cold hits the mountain as evening approaches, and a cold rain falls as the sun sets.\u00a0 The wind sounds like someone screaming, and the lamps don\u2019t illuminate the cabin like they should.\u00a0 They manage to convince themselves it\u2019s just their imaginations, at first \u2014 rain happens when you\u2019re camping, right?\u00a0\u00a0 And James\u2019 buddy Randal is just a religious nut who\u2019s scared of storms.\u00a0 Nevermind\u00a0that the locals don\u2019t go out alone after dark, or the number of tourists\u00a0\u201clost\u201d in the Ozarks every year.\u00a0 The darkness can\u2019t move outside the window.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s worse, though, the darkness, itself, moving?\u00a0 Or something moving outside in the darkness?<\/p>\n

Having released my second story set in that world, I am also releasing the logo, which you will also see at the top of my page to the right. \u00a0All my stories will be available at that link as they are released.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The Mundus Occultus is my world of occult horror and supernatural mystery. \u00a0Unlike most of the genre, however, my stories are rooted as much in my life experience as a neo-Pagan witch as the conventions of the genre. \u00a0Along side\u00a0all the werewolves and vampires and flesh-and-bone monsters, half the thigns we love, you will see magic that makes sense, refferences to books you’ve read, books you wish you’d written, and an insider’s perspective on how Pagans and magicians would live in such a world. \u00a0I also strive to defy the conventions of the genre in respect to the treatment of queers, women, and people of color. \u00a0This is not a world with hero cops or innocent white boys. \u00a0The world may not be saved. \u00a0That may not be a bad thing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
