I actually haven\u2019t had anyone else do a reading for me in quite some time, so I took advantage of the opportunity.\u00a0 Bought gently used, she\u2019s still getting to know the deck and attuning it to herself.\u00a0\u00a0 It\u2019s already got quite a personality: it doesn\u2019t want to deal with piddly shit.\u00a0 It told me the same as I shuffled it; it also demanded a specific question rather than a general reading.<\/p>\n
So I asked it to talk about the direction my magical practice is taking.<\/p>\n
The central thesis here seems to be \u201cGood job; now get to work.\u201d\u00a0 The Moon (which was central to my monthly reading as well) and the Hanged Man tell me that there\u2019s some important work I\u2019ve been dodging around.<\/p>\n \u201cWhat am I avoiding?\u201d I ask.\u00a0 \u201cI\u2019m hip-deep in the biggest thing I\u2019ve ever avoided in my magical career.\u201d\u00a0 I was speaking of the planetary and ceremonial magical studies I\u2019ve been doing, of course.\u00a0 I put that shit off for fourteen-odd years.<\/p>\n Aradia knows me well, though.\u00a0 She knows the answer.\u00a0 \u201cWhen was the last time you visited the Underworld?\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI \u2026 uh \u2026 don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n And \u2026 that\u2019s unfortunately true.\u00a0 The deeper into the planetary magic I get, the more my visionary work has been left by the wayside.\u00a0 I could blame that on the fact that it\u2019s not really a part of the system I\u2019m studying\u2014even if it is a major component of Penczack\u2019s High Temple<\/em>, which I\u2019ve been using as an outline for my studies\u2014but the fact of the matter is that I\u2019ve just run into one too many things that have scared me when I\u2019ve visited the Underworld.<\/p>\n Between the unsettling demands <\/a>some of my newer spirit-allies have made of me, and my seeming inability to explore new territories without incurring new alliances and their attendant obligations\u2026 Well, let\u2019s just say that I\u2019ve become very, very good at finding reasons not to do Down.\u00a0 Smart people can be disturbingly good at lying to themselves.\u00a0 And with all the Work I have<\/em> been doing\u2014planetary talismans, the Stele of Jeu, puzzling my way (oh, so slowly) through Agrippa and my newfound relationship with my Natal Genius, and even the continuation of Deb\u2019s New Year, New You, which I have fallen so far behind on in the last month\u2014it\u2019s been particularly easy.<\/p>\n \u201cBut wait!,\u201d you (my dear readers) ask.\u00a0 \u201cDidn\u2019t you work your way through that already?\u201d\u00a0 Yeah, I thought that I had.\u00a0 Apparently I
