PRELIMINARY DIVINATION<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

I\u2019m not always very good about divining before enchanting, but I thought that this culminating ritual would be an exceptionally good time to observe best practices.\u00a0 Unfortunately, as you can see, the outcome is less than clear.\u00a0 Obviously, I decided to proceed anyway.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

THE CONJURATION OF BAPHOMET<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The ritual below was adapted from Peter Carol\u2019s \u201cMass of Chaos\u201d (Liber Null, <\/em>pp130-132).<\/p>\n

i. Preparation<\/em><\/h5>\n

Prepare a Seal of Baphomet and a Circle of the Art<\/p>\n

Prepare the Mask for consecration<\/p>\n

Perform the Pentagram Rite <\/a>(enter \u201cgnostic\u201d state)<\/p>\n

ii. Statement of Intent<\/em><\/h5>\n

Hold aloft the Mask (the \u201cmaterial basis\u201d)<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is my will that this mask be consecrated that it may house the aspect of Baphomet, sacred androgyne of Chaos, and that He be present within it.\u201d<\/p>\n

iii. Invocation of Chaos<\/em><\/h5>\n

Speak the Barbarous Words as you visualize the eight-rayed star of Chaos:<\/p>\n

\u201cOL SONUF VAROSAGAI GOHU<\/p>\n

VOUINA VABZIR DE TEHOM QUADMONAH<\/p>\n

ZIR ILE IAIDA DAYES PRAF ELIA<\/p>\n

iv. Invocation of Baphomet<\/em><\/h5>\n

Raise power for the invocation, then incant:<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the first aeon, I was the Great Spirit<\/p>\n

In the second aeon, Men knew me as the Horned God, Pangenitor Panphage<\/p>\n

In the third aeon, I was the Dark One, the Devil<\/p>\n

In the fourth aeon, Men know me not, for I am the Hidden One<\/p>\n

In the new aeon, I appear before you as Baphomet<\/p>\n

The God before all gods who shall endure to the end of the earth.\u201d<\/p>\n

Anoint the Mask as instructed by the God.<\/p>\n

v. Oath<\/em><\/h5>\n

Hold the Mask aloft and intone:<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is my will.\u201d<\/p>\n

vi. Closing<\/em><\/h5>\n

Repeat the Pentagram Rite<\/p>\n

THE RESULTS<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Half by accident, half by design, I settled on the Hour of Mercury on the Day of Saturn for my ritual.\u00a0 I painted my nails black to contrast with my white ritual robes, which I did not don until after the Invocation of Chaos.\u00a0 For my sacrament\u2014both as an entheogen and to anoint the mask\u2014I chose absinthe, louched this time to smooth the ride and to help make dosage easier.\u00a0 In between each of the first three stages, I spontaneously added some drumming to help boost the power and my trance.<\/p>\n

The Barbarous Words of the Invocation of Chaos were \u2026 interesting.\u00a0 Something definitely answered that call.<\/p>\n

The Invocation of Baphomet was likewise interesting.\u00a0 I was filled with conflicting urges: to hold the mask in my right hand or left, to rearrange my ritual jewelry, to wear the mask.\u00a0 Ultimately I held it in my left hand and raised my right to the sky to channel the power: the inverse of the way I usually do things.\u00a0 I anointed the mask with the sacrament, painting an inverted pentagram on its brow.<\/p>\n

I closed the ritual by reversing the Pentagram Rite: starting at the North, moving widdershins, and using a banishing rather than invoking pentagram.\u00a0 Wholly myself again, I was still tingling.\u00a0 Finally, I lit a candle beside the mask as a thanks-offering to Baphomet.<\/p>\n

Overall, I would call the conjuration a success. Taking about half an hour from beginning to end (though it felt longer), the ritual went so smoothly as to almost be anticlimactic.\u00a0 I felt the ressonance of the Barbarous Words and the Invocation.\u00a0 I felt the power run through me.\u00a0 Baphomet (or some entity answering to that name and description, anyway) now resides in a mask on my altar.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
