Now, let me preface this by saying: practical magic is somewhat new to me.\u00a0 I have generally devoted my psychic energies to, well, spiritual and psychic pursuits.\u00a0 Mostly, in fact, I\u2019ve devoted my energy to getting better than just a finger-hold on sanity, and to Warding my home-space (which is largely part of the same).\u00a0 When it comes to manifesting things, I\u2019ve relied on my Web<\/a>. <\/p>\n A single-room in a good dorm where I\u2019d feel safe, though, seemed a rather high order for that \u2013 especially since I wouldn\u2019t actually be moving for another eight weeks.\u00a0 I\u2019d never experimented with sigil magic before, but I\u2019ve I\u2019ve done a bit of candle magic.\u00a0 So I decided to use a large candle as the \u201cfiring mechanism\u201d, so to speak, for the sigil \u2013 and back it all up with a boost from the sort of old-fashioned raise-a-circle magic they taught me in Witchcraft.\u00a0 Aradia helped, of course.<\/p>\n Although I\u2019m getting better at it, I\u2019m not always the best at keeping a journal.\u00a0 I don\u2019t recall the exact date and time \u2013 it was the full moon in June, but I cant say which day of the moon.\u00a0 Nor did I record exactly<\/em> how I phrased the spell before condensing it to a sigil.\u00a0 I think it was \u201cSAFE HOME SINGLE DORM ROOM\u201d.\u00a0 I do remember chanting \u201cSafe home dorm room \/ single room dorm room\u201d.<\/p>\n The sigil and the candle, after \u201cfiring\u201d.<\/font><\/p>\n In the most direct sense, the spell either didn\u2019t work \u2026 or it backfired.\u00a0 Not only am I not living I a single room, I\u2019m not living in the dorms.\u00a0 Or even on campus.\u00a0 I\u2019m living in a one-bedroom college-owned housing unit, legally a separate entity from the school.<\/p>\n But here\u2019s the catch: single rooms for freshmen don\u2019t exist, and not many transfers get them.\u00a0 The dormitory to which most of the transfers were assigned may not have single rooms at all.\u00a0 Also \u2026 I don\u2019t think, now that I\u2019ve been in<\/em> dorms again for the first time in ten or twelve years, that such an environment could ever be \u201csafe\u201d for me at this stage in my life.<\/p>\n \u201cSafe home\u201d and \u201csingle dorm room\u201d may have been incompatible parameters.<\/p>\n I didn\u2019t get what I wanted.\u00a0 But I did get what I need: a safe home, where I can set up my altar and an alchemy lab and even continue brewing my mead.\u00a0 An easy walk from campus, but too far for post flavors of random visiting.\u00a0 Far enough that campus security is a total non-issue.\u00a0 With neighbors who like to party quietly and mind their own business.<\/p>\n So \u2026 did the spell work or
